'Cats Finish 4th at Individual States
The Bobcats continued to wrestle strong this past weekend, taking 8 wrestlers to the MPSSAA State Tournament all 8 made it into the second day with Blake Calligaro and Steve Cross knocking off Regional Champions in the first round, Justin Lorber and Mike Marianetti did not place but won a couple of matches helping the team score. The team took 4th place overall with 4 place finishers, Tom Kuegler 4th at 171, Anton Lawhon 3rd at 140, Jeff Taylor 3rd at 103 and Justin Cole earned the #2 spot at 215. Anton Lawhon and Justin Cole were invited represent the 1a/2a team atto this years MD-VA all-star classic this Saturday at the Comcast Center of the University of Maryland. Our next action will take place this Wednesday evening at Kent High School where the UCBAC seniors will take on the Bayside seniors.
Regional ChampsThe Bobcats stay on the winning pace, earning the 1A/2a East Regional tournament title with 130 points, over Rising Sun's 106.5. The Bobcats were able to place all 8 of their qualifiying wrestlers in the top 4, which rewards them by qualifying them for the State Tournament. 1st place finishers - Justin Cole and Jeff Taylor - 2nd place finishers - Anton Lawhon and Justin Lorber - 3rd place finishers - Tom Kuegler and Mike Marianetti and 4th place finishers - Steve Cross and Blake Calligaro. In 11 days of action, the Bel Air wrestlers have won the Regional Duals, UCBAC Conference Championship, State Duals and Regional Tournament and the Junior Varsity earned a 3rd place finish in the UCBAC Conference tournament. It has been a busy couple weeks and we hope to take the momentum into Cole Field House this weekend as we compete in the MPSSAA State Tournament. MATT CROSS 3rd AT EWCC
Bel Air graduate and Sophomore at Messiah College, Matt Cross, finished 3rd in the Empire Wrestling Conference Championships this past weekend. Matt went up 2 weight classes to fill a hole in the Falcons lineup at 174lb's due to injury. He topped the day with a 5-2 win over Ithaca College’s David Priest — a two-time national qualifier. Maryland State Dual Champions!!
The Bel Air Bobcats came into the State Dual Tournament as the fourth seed, but walked out as state champions late Tuesday night. We upended #1 seed Owings Mills 39-28 and surprised returning champion Glenelg in the finals 32-23.
